Therapeutic Riding ~ How It Works

Horses and people have nearly identical strides. We have the same number of steps per minute, stride lengths and the same hip rotation while walking. These similarities allow the horse to facilitate the motion of the human stride for our riders. The benefits to our students include improved joint mobility, better balance and coordination. Without conscious effort, our riders are treated to a proven therapy that is both fun and rewarding while they gain confidence and achieve health and fitness goals.

The needs of each student are carefully considered when we assemble a personal therapeutic team. Each includes the rider, horse, instructor and others necessary to maximize the benefits of each lesson. Our PATH certified instructors and trained volunteers treat all riders with respect and work toward building a friendly and caring relationship with each member of our BTR family.
